What’s the best way to prepare for an interview?

Interview Prep

Different companies have different interviewing styles – however, being well prepared will make you shine regardless.

So, what’s the best way to prepare for your next interview?

Well, the first one is obvious, but do your research into the company! Don’t just use their website – search them – have they been in the news lately? Check their social media accounts – what sort of interactions do they have and what sort of content do they share? This will give you a good insight into the company.

Secondly, as well as preparing for the typical interview questions you are likely to get, look at the job description you’ve been provided: there will be a section describing the requirements for the role or the kind of person they are after: prepare one example for each of these points and have an extra 3 or 4 versatile ones on hand for questions you are not anticipating.

Thirdly, prepare to talk bout these examples using the STAR technique (Situation, Task, Action, Result). Structuring them this way will lead to full, well-rounded answers that are unlikely to get follow-up questions.

Make sure you have some questions prepared for after the interview – not just about the company, but more personal questions for your interviewers: how they ended up in their current role, what they most enjoy about working in the company, etc.

Finally, dress to impress! It is important to give a good first impression and looking smart will go a long way.
